to come
Chairman
Maurice Lifford
2009 - 2010

to come
Chairman Laurie Chandler 2008 - 9
Chairman John Goodridge 2007 -8

My Committee consisted of Laurie Chandler as Deputy Chairman, John
Moore as Immediate Past Chairman, Welfare Secretary and Ladies Lunch
Organiser, Brian Jackson as General, Membership and Minutes Secretary;
Alan Neale as Treasurer and Excursions Organiser; David Ashen as Events
Organiser
May I thank the Committee on your behalf for the work they have all put
in during my year of office, notably Alan Neale for combining the role
of Treasurer and the organisation of two weekends away, then there was
David Ashen for the Pub Lunches, John Moore for organising our Ladies
lunches and Ian Rathjen for his work on the Directory.
We have again been well served by our Webmaster, Cliff Douthwaite and by
John Rowe whose photography now greatly embellishes our site.
Chairman John Goodridge
Chairman’s updated Message, June 2007
Our
monthly lunch meetings continue to be well attended although recent
numbers have fallen slightly. Once again, I request you all to recruit
one new member to replace those who have departed this life.
We
have had two memorable events recently, firstly a great five day tour of
Norfolk and the very successful Ladies’ Lunch held at Glenmore House.
At that lunch, instead of the usual speaker, we were entertained by a
great singer, John Stratford. He sang unaccompanied a wide range of
songs.
The
Club Events Secretary has an excellent future tour programme in
preparation, the first of which is scheduled to take place in September
2007 and which will be based in Lisieux, France.
We welcome non-club members on these tours, space
permitting.
We
are planning another Ladies’ Christmas Lunch and more details will be
published nearer the time.

John
Moore - Chairman 2006-7 Update April 2007
As I am sure you must
realise, our member numbers have fallen recently, mainly due to the
recent death of some members.
I am sure you will
agree that we do not want the Club to fold through lack of numbers. I
urge every member to introduce a prospective new member. I do not need
to say that a member’s visitor to one of our luncheons is almost always
delighted with the experience and, hopefully, will not need much
persuasion to become a regular member of the Club.
Please help to keep
the Club alive.
John
Moore - Chairman 2006-7 Surbiton Probus Club

It
is a great privilege for me to be elected as Chairman of the Surbiton
Probus Club for 2006/2007.
The
Club presently has 55 members of which a monthly average of 45 attend
our luncheons which are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each
month.
Following a very good lunch, a guest speaker gives a talk and/or a slide
show, lasting about 30 minutes, on one of a very varied number of
interesting subjects. These talks are always of a very high standard
and speakers welcome questions at the end of their presentation.
Although the majority of our members live locally in the Surbiton or
Kingston areas, we do have some living outside the Royal Borough. I
hope that after browsing through our website you will be interested in
joining the Club – if so, the members and I will look forward to
welcoming you; please contact any of the Committee members, following
which you will be invited to attend one of our lunches so that we can
meet each other.
Each year, the Club organises two short holidays for members and their
partners, one in the Spring and the other in the early Autumn; it is
hoped that in 2007 we shall be visiting somewhere across the Channel
again. Our Events Organiser is also hoping to arrange for other (single
day) visits to places of interest (as well as our usual series of
informal pub lunches at popular local hostelries for members and their
partners.

Ian
Rathjen - Chairman 2005-6 Surbiton Probus Club
I
welcome this opportunity to say something about Surbiton Probus Club
because it is an organisation which deserves praise. We are a
flourishing group and the reason is that we are such a friendly crowd.
Our monthly lunches at the Antoinette Hotel not only provide good food
but also a welcoming atmosphere, in which it would be hard to feel left
out. The speakers after lunch are stimulating and at least twice a year
we ask members to bring guests to enjoy the proceedings. Last Christmas,
for example, over a hundred members with wives, partners and guests were
joined by the Mayor for a most convivial lunch. Indeed , so keen are the
members to meet one another that they come along in good numbers to the
"pub lunches" held at various hostelries around the Borough.
With
over 60 members there are always willing volunteers to join our small
organising committee and posts, like mine as Chairman, rotate annually
so that the Club does not have to rely on the same old faces every year!
The committee also organises local outings to places of interest and
twice a year we take "long weekend" coach tours within the UK or the
near continent. These are extremely popular not least because we look to
maintain a tradition of a good hotel with good food.
Of
course you do not have to live within Surbiton to be able to join us. We
have some members who come regularly even though they live some distance
away. Not everyone comes by car; there are really good local transport
links so people are not put off by distance. We do not have a waiting
list at present, although we may be getting near that point, so we
welcome you, if you would like to join us, to get in touch and come
along as our guest to see for yourself what a friendly crowd we are.
Thank
you for visiting our website. I hope that you now feel that you know a
little more about us. I look forward to meeting you.
