Surbiton Probus Moves to Surbiton

Founded in 1971 Surbiton Probus Club has until now always met at the Antoinette Hotel in Kingston. But now the members have decided to move on and all meetings will foregather at Glenmore House conveniently situated at No 6 The Crescent, within minutes of central Surbiton and its excellent travel facilities.

Probus is a luncheon club with a difference. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month to enjoy a good meal, companionship and an interesting talk. Speakers cover a wide range of subjects from the worlds of work, sport, the arts, hobbies, to the environment and so on. Weekends away (with partners) usually take place in the spring and autumn and have become very popular.

Membership is open to men who have retired or partly retired and who have worked in a professional or business environment. Further details can be obtained from the :-

Question: What does it cost to join The Surbiton Probus Club

Answer:

Currently, the annual subscription is £10 for which you receive the Club Membership Directory & Rules (the Rules can be found for your perusal on this site), name badge, and the “Probus Life” bi-monthly magazine. Note if you join after 1 August the subscription for that remaining year is 50% of the full year's cost.

Question: How much are the lunches?

Answer:

The normal 3 course lunch held at the Glenmore House conveniently situated at No 6 The Crescent, within minutes of central Surbiton and its excellent travel facilities, currently costs £17.00 per head (including gratuities). The Ladies Lunches held in June and December, are sometimes held at other venues,  presently cost £20 per head (including gratuities but this can vary according to the venue).

I am interested in joining - what do I do next?

Contact the General Secretary by e-mail giving your full name, address, telephone number and e-mail address together with any questions you may have. On this website is a membership application form for completion and return.

Once returned, the completed application form will be considered by the Club Committee at their next meeting (1st Tuesday of each month). If all is well, you will be invited to attend the next lunch as a paying guest of the Club when you will be introduced to the Committee and other members, alternatively a member can elect to invite you to a luncheon meeting and will be responsible for that meals cost and must advise the Treasurer by the prior Monday of the meeting well before the 12.00 deadline.

Finally, if you are accepted and still wish to proceed, you will be asked to pay your membership fee on receipt of which you will be sent or given your copy of the Club Directory, name badge and other information.

You will then be a full member of the Club and entitled to participate in all the Club’s activities.
